Life Cycles

I was reading some global warming drivel on CNN a few moments ago, when I had an epiphany.

Where do glaciers come from? I know they didn't exist from the beginning of our earth. Did God place them there? (I guess, in the larger scheme, He actually did...but that discussion is for another time...) Did glaciers just magically appear? No.

The reality is is that glaciers grew because of layers or snow and other precipitation (sleet, rain, whatever) falling on mountains or in high mountain valleys.

This leads me to ask - where was all this precipitation BEFORE it became a glacier???? Was it floating around? Was it in an ocean? Was it in a lake? If so, were water levels higher? Where were the continents - under water?

The earth - you global warming sycophants - goes through warming AND cooling stages. The sea level correspondingly rise and fall.

If the water level rises - people and animals move.
If the water level falls - people and animals move.

Plants send their seeds and pollen to distant and fertile shores. Not every one of their seeds survive, but that is why plants have thousands, if not millions, of seeds.

Species that have genetic variability (humans, birds, insects, mammals, bacteria) find a way to cope with the changes...that is, a certain percentage of any population will have the necessary genetic 'difference' to see them through the ecological rough spots.

Species with no genetic variation...or species that have reached the end of variability (genetic clones) are destined to die out.

Hint: the number of species that have died outnumber those that are currently living, 999 to 1.

This argument, believe it or not, is the very center of the pro-life movement.

Why is it that life is so important?

Beyond the morality issue, if you delve deeper into the human psyche, we ALL inherently know that genetic diversity gives us a chance to survive. Why do we seek spouses that are outside our immediate families? Why are our eyes drawn to that which is different from our everyday surroundings? Why do we eat a variety of foods - not just the same one over and over again?

Diversity equals survival.

I can't abide the killing of a person because they are different or unwanted - killing someone kills us all. The act of killing is utterly repugnant to me. I guess I have a bit of the Hindu belief system...life, no matter the form, is precious. I could probably expound more on this - but I have to get some stuff done today. Maybe another time.

In closing, I wouldn't worry too much about a warming trend, or even a cooling trend.

I would worry about making sure we have enough diversity on this planet - and that means letting the earth work out the temperature, and us making sure our children are born. The animals and plants and bacteria will sort it out on their own.
